Intramurals are back this year with great teams along with much awaited hype. Saturday, December 2, was the tip-off to start the 2000-01 season. The league has plenty of talent but also has plenty of people that just play to have fun.
Mr. Bacerra, Mr. Robinson, and Mr. Dennison are at the reigns of the league at officiating all the games on Saturdays starting at 8:10 a.m.
As always, the seniors, juniors and sophmores, freshmen play in their own leagues. The seniors and juniors play earlier in the morning. The latest game is 11:30 a.m.
The referees, starting with the first of the games made their presence noticed by calling all the fouls in the book. They want to let you know that you won’t get away with the slightest type of foul.

"Intramural basketball has gotten more popular every single year. Intramurals have also been getting more respect from the students and administration,"said Mr. Becerra

"I think that intramural basketball is very fun. It allows you and your friends to have a good time. I look forward to lacing up my ‘retros’ each week and play intramural style," commented Rob Smith
One of the things that has changed or added have been the rules. This year, they are letting teams have a full court press on defense if the score is within six points and under two minutes left in the game. Another newly acquired rule, when a men’s team is playing an all women’s team, the guys are not allowed in the key. Many people have objected to this rule-even the girls.
Due to the popularity of intramural basketball, there was a limitation on the number of teams to be able to sign up on the first come, first serve basis. Many people who wanted to play were denied because of signing up too late. There has been a limit of 32 teams because the lack of time and referees.
Each week, Mr. Becerra picks the games of the week.
"I try to pick some games that would be interesting to go watch," added Mr. Becerra.
So come watch these Saturday morning superstars show their game on the courts.
